Chocolate Banana Bread

Rich and delicious banana bread with a chocolate twist! It’s vegan friendly and can easily be made gluten and refined sugar free.
Ingredients
CHOCOLATE BANANA BREAD: (gluten-free option below)
3/4 cup (149g) coconut sugar or pure cane sugar
3 large bananas, mashed (Use ripe and spotted bananas. About 1 1/3 cups)
1/2 cup vegetable oil, melted coconut oil, or other oil of choice
1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk or other milk of choice
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract, optional
1 1/2 cups (185g) unbleached all-purpose flour
2/3 cup (55g) cocoa powder or cacao powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup chocolate chips, divided
Gluten-Free Banana Bread:
3/4 cup (149g) coconut sugar or pure cane sugar
3 large bananas, mashed (Use ripe and spotted bananas. About 1 1/3 cups)
1/4 cup vegetable oil, melted coconut oil, or other oil of choice
1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk or other milk of choice
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract, optional
1 cup (120g) gluten free all-purpose flour blend
1/2 cup (52g) finely ground almond flour
2/3 cup (55g) cocoa powder or cacao powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup chocolate chips, divided
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325ºF. Lightly grease or line a 9x5x3 loaf pan with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a large bowl, mash bananas together with the sugar. Stir in oil, milk, vinegar, and vanilla.
- Add flour(s), cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt, mixing just until incorporated. Stir in 1/2 cup chocolate chips.
- Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and top with remaining 1/4 cup of chocolate chips.
- Place pan in the oven on the middle rack and bake for 60–70 minutes, until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Let loaf cool 10–15 minutes before removing from the pan. Remove and cool completely on a baking rack for easy slicing.
