Move over buttered toast, there’s a whole new world out there! Try these ten tasty toast ideas to turn your boring bread into a delicious meal or snack!
I think we’ve already settled that I’m a bit of a breadoholic. However, in the last few years I’ve noticed I have a bit of tummy trouble when I eat too much of it. I do eat regular bread whenever I get the chance on occasion, but I’ve found eating mostly gluten-free works best for me. Because gluten-free bread is a little on the firm side, I only like it toasted. Still haven’t found a perfectly soft, gluten-free sandwich bread (If you know of any, please share!)
Since we eat a lot of toast around here, we’ve been getting creative with the toppings. Here are a few of the toast ideas we’ve tried and liked!
Creamy Cucumber Avocado With Dill
Try this light and refreshing snack! Whipped cream cheese, cucumber slices, avocado, fresh dill, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Crunchy, yet creamy and so delicious!
Chunky Monkey
One of my go-to snacks and favorite flavor combos: Unsweetened peanut butter, sliced banana, and cacao nibs. Sometimes I like to sweeten it up with a touch of honey or I’ll add some chopped almonds for that extra crunch!
Green Protein
Get your greens in with this quick take on Eggs Florentine! A fried egg sits on a bed of kale sautéed with some minced onion, garlic, and sprinkled with salt and pepper. You can substitute spinach for the kale. To make a quick kale sauté:
- 1 tablespoons coconut oil or butter
- 2 cups kale or spinach
- 1 tablespoons minced onion
- 1 minced garlic clove
- 1-2 tablespoons water, if needed to wilt leaves
- salt and pepper, to taste
In a medium skillet, melt oil/butter over medium heat. Add greens, onion, garlic and cook over medium-high heat until leaves are wilted. If needed, add 1-2 tablespoons of water to the pan to help steam the kale/spinach. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Makes enough for two pieces of toast.
Berry Chocolate
Chocolate hazelnut spread, fresh raspberries, chocolate sauce, and sliced almonds make a quick and delicious sweet snack! My Easy Vegan Chocolate Sauce is:
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 1.5 tablespoons cocoa powder
- splash of vanilla extract
Egg Salad Avocado
Egg salad and sliced avocado make a delicious combo. Full of protein and healthy fat, it makes a yummy snack and is even filling enough for breakfast or lunch! To make my easy egg salad, blend together:
- 2 chopped boiled eggs
- 2 tablespoons mayo
- 1 teaspoon minced onion
- 1/4 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
- a pinch of pepper and salt, to taste
Honey Almond Pear
A fresh nut butter and sliced fruit is one of my favorite toppings on toast. This snack has a nutritional punch with protein from almond butter, fresh sliced pear, a drizzle of honey, and helpful antioxidants and fiber with a sprinkle of chia seeds!
All In One Breakfast
A complete breakfast on a piece of bread! Slices of baked turkey bacon, sautéed asparagus, and a poached egg on toast.
Vegan Caprese
Another avocado toast variation! Mashed avocado, fresh basil leaves, sliced tomato, balsamic glaze, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Balsamic glaze is balsamic vinegar that has been reduced to a thick, sweet, and tangy glaze. You definitely don’t want to forgo adding this ingredient. It truly makes this combo shine, trust me!
Red Pepper Hummus
For a savory snack, try hummus on toast with sliced red pepper, a little chopped green onion, toasted sunflower seeds, a drizzle of olive oil, and a dash of salt and pepper.
Strawberry Avocado
Add a bit of sweetness to your avocado toast with sliced strawberries! Finish with a drizzle of tangy balsamic glaze.
We eat these toasts for breakfast, snack, and sometimes lunch! They’re filling, delicious, and nutritious. I hope you found an idea that you like!
